This is what I love about Sweet Tooth Sundays. It’s kind of like a time machine. My great grandmother use to make rhubarb sauce and to this day I can still taste it. Tart and sweet…bright red. Apple sauce on steroids.

It’s one of those things that grandparents and mothers do…they make something so good and so memorable that we’re spoiled for life. Nothing will ever be quite so good.

But I must say that what Anna came home with this week is a very close second to grandma’s rhubarb sauce. This rhubarb and apple tart from Bread & Cie in Hillcrest is really great. We live in Hillcrest and love it here because we’re within walking distance of all these great restaurants, and Bread & Cie is one of the best breakfast and lunch places in town.

A cup of red tea on the side and needless to say the tart didn’t last long.

Grandma would say it’s better than hers but I know the truth.
