This is a bit of a different post that I hope you’ll enjoy.

Earlier this year my wife and I visited a spot in Northern California we love; it’s a place called Sea Ranch.

Sea Ranch is a small community near the Mendocino County line in northern Sonoma county. It contours along the stunning coast filled with small beaches and steep cliffs and rolling fields of native plants.

While this area is developed, the association seems to balance the need for open spaces that harbor native plants and animals and access by us humans.

There are many reasons we’re all drawn to areas like this. For us, the ocean is a place for rejuvenation. The sounds, the smells, and in this particular area, the solitude that we find here fills our cups.

One thing you won’t see in these images are crowds. There aren’t many people along this stretch and it’s refreshing to sit and watch the sun set or rise with the only sounds being that of birds, wind, seals barking, and waves crashing against the rocks.

During our two weeks in Sea Ranch, I photographed almost every sunrise and sunset. Waking up before dawn and heading out long before sunset to photograph different areas of the coast.

I tried to photograph the shoreline in different ways than I normally do. Many of these images are panoramas. It’s difficult to capture any scene that mother nature presents, but I found this format to be as close as I could get to the feeling of being in these spots, looking out one these cliffs.

I hope you enjoy these images and that they give you a sense of being in these beautiful locations.
