John Muir said it best…In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.
With nothing more than what we could carry on our backs, we headed for the back country of the North Cascades. In total we spent 7 days in the back country. Our time walking trails and sleeping beneath the stars was beautiful, difficult, frigid, awe inspiring, and has left us still interpreting our experience.
During the last few days of our trip smoke from fires to the east of us settled in and blocked our views. We read that these peaks provide some of the best scenery in world. Yes we missed out on some amazing sunrises, sunsets and landscapes but what we saw was a view that very few see. Our views were mysterious and ominous. Not your every day, run of the mill landscape.
Despite missing out on the spectacular views our trip was amazing and gave us far more than we would have ever expected. We’re grateful for the National Park and National Forest system, the ability to step outside our comfort zones, unplug for more than a few hours to spend time with each other in nature. And some day we’ll head back to see those views without smoke, in all their grandeur.
Enjoy…
