Dear 2020,
It’s currently June and you’re only six months old.
In these past six months you’ve challenged me in many, many ways.
First, you challenged my business and you tested my resiliency with COVID-19.
Then, you not only challenged the way I view the world I live in but you challenged the awareness I’ve had toward my place in it. You raised your voice about countless forms of injustice that I will never come close to understanding. You created an awareness that I need to work at being a better human being.
Every year before you tried to make me aware of these injustices. But your voice, the people’s voices, broke through to me and countless others.
When April came I just wanted it to be December.
But now that June has begun, and after seeing and feeling the events of the past few weeks unfold, I truly believe you have a bigger message to send us. A very important message, but one that will take time to fully mature.
I’m writing you this letter to say that yes, I was really frustrated with you at first.
But now I want you to keep sending your messages and raising your voice.
Based on your track record I’m sure you’ll be sending important messages and amplifying the voices of those you feel we should be listening to and learning from.
I wanted you know I’m listening so I can learn.
