I’m a firm believer that a series of images tells us a much deeper story than a single image. This is the reason why I take the time to show entire weddings from start to finish. Showing a wedding day from beginning to end shows the beauty in the roller coaster of the day and helps define each couple and their relationship with each other.
On the other hand, I take single images at every wedding that tell mini-stories from each day. A small, fleeting moment that wasn’t planned. A moment that caused an amazing reaction. A personal item that has more meaning than can be seen through the photo. I feel lucky that so many couples trust me to document these moments and I really want to share the stories behind them.
And here begins a new series: Behind the Photo. Sharing the importance, one photo at a time…
To begin the series is an image I really love. This is Stacy and Ryan’s first dance. Every time I look at this image I feel the stillness of this moment.
The first minute of their dance was more conventional, just the two of them alone on the dance floor. About 60 seconds in they asked their guests to join them. To feel their family and friends closer and including them into the moment was more comfortable and right for Stacy and Ryan. It wasn’t conventional but the wedding day is about setting your own terms for what’s right for you and your guests. This shows the importance of doing what feels right instead of doing what’s been done before…and by doing what was right for them we were able to create a beautiful image.
Stacy has a blog called The Lacquerie. You should head over for a visit.
